Review of chapter "Chapter One" from AkashaDrake
Actually, the movie wasn't all that bad. they TRIED to get everything they could into a two-hour movie, and to change things to fit the modern world instead of the world Heinlein knew.

Admittedly, they left a LOT of good material out, and it wasn't as good as the movie.

But I do LOVE the crossover you ended up with. Even the comment on Jake not being there was a good note. Now Scar Gordon and his wife Star would have also been a good response...except that the Roughnecks were better known to most teens in '97
Comments from author:
The movie was horrendous and the producers have gone on record and admitted that they had no idea what the book was about when they bought the movie rights - they just wanted to use the name and tie it to a major author.

They bastardized pretty everything about the novel, and ignored the idea regarding the Mobile Infantry suits completely to make something that had absolutely no relation to teh actual novel. THAT is what I'm pissed about.

And yeah, Scar and Star would probably have dealt with the Master even more quickly and a lot less mercifully than the Roughnecks did. ;-)

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from SCIfilover
yeah this review is late but have to say bless you dear author for going against the established wanking of Buffy characters done by most authors here. They make buffy or willow absurdly powerful and can defeat space empires and galactus that it has become ridiculous. Seriously, several Roughnecks soldiers or Wolverine will be better at killing vampires and demons than a slayer.

Other than that a very well done.
Comments from author:
Thanks for reviewing, and I'm glad you enjoyed the story.

And yes, a platoon (or better yet, a company) of trained soldiers like the Roughnecks would make short work of most of the things that the Scoobies encounter on a nightly basis. ;-)

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from ScorpioP
Yeah the review is a couple years late, but I just now read the story, while wis-- wondering whether any RAH crossovers had been written.

The Roughnecks are a nice touch, but there are so many options. Oscar would probably slice and dice his way through the vamps, Poddy's brother Clark would come up with a sun bomb, and Lazarus Long would probably have some elaborate scam that resulted in the Master walking into the daylight.
Comments from author:
You're completely right - Heinlein's books provide a vast wealth of possible character interactions just waiting to be utilized for any number of possible Scooby-verse FUBARs waiting to happen. ;-)

The Roughnecks were exactly the type of answer that a sixteen year old boy would consider to be the perfect solution to any sort of problem involving violence, Lazarus would probably cone up with some sort of common-sense futuristic gadget, while I shudder to even think about what sort of solution Clark would come up with when confronted with vampires. 0.0

Glad you enjoyed the story.

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from Geyer
Gotta love that powered armor. (Brief pause to consider whether the Roughnecks are going to get back to the Rodger Young...) Good thinking on Xander's part. Nice story.
Comments from author:
Yeah, every once in a while, I guess the Hellmouth weirdness has to end up benefiting the good guys, right? ;-)

And power armor would would be very much of the good in Sunnydale. ;-)

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from LordCorwin
I always thought the main character was .. John Carter (err .. forgot the last name) ... hmmm ... Jake being the Father of Dejah Thoris ... After all, most of the story is told from the view point of J.C. .... but then it's been several years since I've read the story .. guess I'm going to have to go back and re-read it .... (mutters something about another book on his to re-read list..... sigh)

Other than that ... Hopefully, you will continue with this story
Comments from author:
Nope, Juan (Johnny) Rico was the narrator for Starship Troopers. I believe you're thinking of 'The Number of the Beast.'

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from CrystalOGrapher
Hee! That was an amusing cross, indeed. I can see Xander making that wish - I'm sure he'd have seen the movie. Does he actually read sci-fi, though? I don't recall him ever mentioning actual novels.
Comments from author:
Xander's reading habits were never really addressed in canon, but with his numerous pop cultural references, I figured he was probably fairly well read in subjects outside the normal schoolwork assignments. And I consider Heinlein required reading for anyone and everyone. The man was a genius.

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from ThunderGod
if there was a would be that you referenced the original Book and not the horror that became the movie *shudder*...loved the cross:}

Comments from author:
Absolutely no sequel is planned. I've got enough WIPs going right now to keep me quite busy for some time to come. ;-)

I loved this the first time I read it and I loved it again when I just reread it now. I can so imagine what Rico's Roughnecks could do to the demonic/vampiric population of Sunnydale. Lol!
Comments from author:
Yeah, the Hellmouth would be pretty much empty in a very short period of time, wouldn't it? ;-)

The way they could kick butt was one reason Xander wished for them.
