Great job, though I wish you had faith prevent Niobe from killing herself.
Comments from author:
Sorry but that would have prevented Willow from meeting Lucius in Eygpt!

Review of chapter "13: The Epilogue." from maxthehobbit
Review:
Good one, I remember seeing 'Gladiator' and reading about roman soldiers. It was unusual the way a soldier back then, in the Roman Army anyway, had to be a soldier, slave, builder of roads and war machines and half a dozen other things. I saw most of the Rome series also and it was one of the best series ever. I liked the way you made Faith a regular slayer, not a murdering maniac or a redemption filled twit. Your 'created characters' also fit well into the story.
Thanks for sharing.
Comments from author:
This is the story were I started to get things really right! I really enjoyed writing this it seemed to flow out of my head onto the computer very easily.

Faith, in my opinion, was a victim of circumstances, she wasn't evil, she was just a scared, confused girl who no one seemed to have time for. At least in Roman times her natural talents were a big plus not a big minus.

Cheers,
D.

Review of chapter "13: The Epilogue." from (Current Donor)vidicon
Review:
I can see Faith fitting in quite well in Ancient times though it occurs to me that she has a lot less trouble with fighting (not killing, which she also does not like) the humans of this era, as if her strenght is many times greater than Buffy. Her skill might be greater than Buffy's, but it seems she is stronger as well. Or am I reading that wrong. I'm also wondering how Faith came to be healed whereas Buffy only ended up worse. But now, the Prologue!

As always, very well written.
Comments from author:
Faith was older than Buffy when she went to the past so I would say the S3 Faith is quite a bit stronger than S1 Buffy.

Also you have to remember that when I wrote this it was supposed to be a one-off, so you'll have to forgive any inconsistencies between this story and the later stories!

Cheers,
D.

Review of chapter "13: The Epilogue." from (Past Donor)DreamSmith
Review:
Well, as much as the ending sort of boggled my mind (no, not the Gods showing up, the part with a (three times!!!) pregnant Faith), I can't deny this was a nifty tale.
This setting is completely alien to me--I have effectively zero interest in ancient Rome--but you still managed to draw me in and keep me reading.
Kudos, and Well-done, sir.
Comments from author:
If you ever get a chance to watch the DVD's of 'ROME' or download them from the internet do so. Ok they play fast and loose with the passage of time and who can say what the historical characters were like in reality, BUT...

In those twenty+ episodes I learnt more about Roman history and life in Rome than I ever did in school!

Glad you enjoyed the story.

Cheers,
D.

Review of chapter "13: The Epilogue." from Xovervore
Review:
Hi Dave I just found this story because the third one is in list of latest stories. I like Ancient Rome - watching TV series, miniseries, documentaries; and reading books about it. Indeed, 'Rome' was a great series -shame it didn't have a third season. 'Killer' is one of my favourite novels, combining two of my most liked things - ancient Roman soldier-heroes and well-created monster(s).
I was particularly amused by this line from chapter 3 - It appeared that Romans would pay good money to watch a young woman, such as Faith, beat the crap out of people; there being no television to watch.
Great stuff. Now I have to read the sequels.
Comments from author:
There was actually a sequel to 'ROME'. It was called 'I Claudius' and was made by the BBC in the 1970's. Its a twelve episode epic and if you like back stabbing and poisoning you'll love it. Of course being made back then its not as lavishly made as 'ROME' but it is well acted and scripted, plus you get to see actors who later become famous.

You should be able to get it from Amazon fairly cheaply.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the rest of the 'SPQR' series as much as I enjoyed writing them and doing the 'research'.

Cheers,
D.

Review of chapter "13: The Epilogue." from BarbarossaRotbart
Review:
A sequel would be great! Perhaps with Buffy landing in Rome 44 BC just after she jumped in "The Gift". (It could really be possible that she lives a long life in Rome and is resurrected after her death there in her old body in Sunnydale.) It would be really interesting how Faith would react to meeting her. And what plan does the roman deities have with Faith's bloodline?
Comments from author:
Thanks for reading and reviewing. There is a sequel in the pipeline...and one day I WILL finish it!

Is Fidelia Venetrix also a crossover with the David Drake book "Killer"? One of the companies my family owns is a bookstore, and I spend half my time there. A great many of your stories are based on book that are from the sci-fi section.
Comments from author:
Yes indeed it was a little.

Always read sci-fi, when I was a boy there was no sci-fi on TV so you really had know choice!

I remembered how much I liked this story and just finished rereading it. I still think that this is one of the best Faith stories I have read. She fits this world so well. Thank you again for sharing it.
Comments from author:
It was a pleasure to write. Having really enjoyed the TV show and like you thinking Faith would be right at home there.

Still got plans to drop other BtVS characters into the 'ROME' universe, but it'll probably be a while yet before anything gets posted.

Thanks for your comments,

Dave.

Review of chapter "13: The Epilogue." from Hecatonchires
Review:
Haven't seen Rome, sounds a bit soap-opery fromt he scenes in this. I did enjoy the story tho - I've read Killer, so I understood about the monster. I liked the day to day details, really gave a sense that she was living in another time, not just 'transplanted'.
Comments from author:
Both series of Rome are worth watching...and yes it is a bit like a soap opera, but a soap opera with buckets of blood! It was very well done, I learnt more about how the Republic turned into the Empire from watching that than I ever did at school.

Anyway glad you liked it I enjoyed writing it, I have been working on a companion piece but I'm a bit blocked at the moment, but I'll get there in the end.

All the best,
DaveT.
