Review of chapter "Chapter One" from Cordyfan
Review:
Just found this by chance and really enjoyed it. A nice take on the Valkyrie myth.

I also read "Go tell the Spartans" - another great story. Not sure why you don't like your 'old' stuff. It's still all extremely readable!
Comments from author:
Thanks.

As for not liking my 'old stuff'...well...some of it is a bit OTT for my tastes now and other bits aren't very well written.

I looked again at 'Rupert's Game' a wee while ago and thought it was a pretty good story but it needs a re-edit. I might do something about that one day.

I'm my own worst critic!

Cheers,
D.

Review:
A bit different feel than your more recent works, but I liked it. Very deservy (to coin a Buffyism) and plausible for the BtVS 'verse. On to read more of your old stuff I somehow missed!
Comments from author:
AAAGH! Not the old stuff!

Please remember I was still learning and I hadn't written any thing much in 20 or 30 years! I very nearly deleted most everything before 'Fidelia Venitrix', but then thought better of it. If I was writing these fics today I'd write them very differently, even I think some of them ramble and have too many ideas.

Cheers,
D.

Review:
Ah, Norse mythology!
Exxxcelllllennnnt.
::steeples fingers in an evil mastermind fashion::

Mmm, not bad. Certainly I can see Buffy as 'fitting' into the Norse system far more easily than the christian... which goes without saying, I suppose. Given the christian system, I'd guess B would be sent straight to hell, what with all the 'consorting with witches', pre-marital sex (with demons!!!), and the rest... not to mention those INSANELY short skirts from season one (Rrrrowwww!)
I'm actually disappointed that she DIDN'T get to do the 'fight all day/party all night' thing; take away the nightmarish consequences of real-world violence, and she might have been quite happy doing that--Many, many times she was shown having a great time in the midst of a fight.
Also.... agh, I'd have to go look at some reference book, but didn't Freya have her own version of Valhalla? As head valkyrie, as well as major goddess, part of her deal was that she got a portion of the valorous slain for her own... maybe as many as half of them, but don't quote me on that. Freya might well have a special place in her heart for the Slayers, being as how they're female superwarriors and all... that would have been an interesting place to go.
(Speaking of which--Freya-Fraya? Was this intentional? Was the goddess masquerading as a 'mere' valkyrie to usher Buffy to her reward?)

The ending....
Meh. I'll admit that I'm slightly unsettled by that. Being reunited with a parent is one thing, willingly returning to (very young) childhood is something else, especially if it's going to go on for a long, loooooong time.
Mm. ::ponders::
I don't know, sir. It almost smacks of cowardice, of fleeing not only battle, but the whole world of adult responsibility.
Granted, there isn't much responsibility inherent in brawling and drinking for all eternity either, though there IS the looming threat of Ragnorock at the end of that, which is of course the reason for all those warriors staying battle ready.

Still, perhaps what seems like the Norse afterlife going all fluffy and bunny-like is just another case of 'changing with the times', so okay, I can deal.

Overall a nice bit of Buffy fic: Thanks!

Edit: ::NodNod:: Yes, I could tell that this was early days for you--your writing has improved a lot since then. Even so, not a bit bit of work.
Comments from author:
OH MY GIDDY AUNT! Was the first reaction I had to someone reviewing this story I posted in '06. The second fic I posted ever!

The ending? I think (and it was a very long time ago so I'm not sure) I was influenced by some lines from 'Red Dawn'. They went something like;

"Take them away from here, to somewhere they can be little again..."

Fraya; Shruggs, at the time of writing I didn't have a list of 'Choosers' so I don't know. If my internet connection was more reliable this morning I'd go and check but it isn't so I won't. My feeling was that there is/was/could be/isn't only one Valhalla.

To be honest I can't say much about this as it was written five+ years ago and my style has changed and I've come up with my own ideas on things. Lets put it this way, I wouldn't write this story this way today. If I did do the 'death' thing again I'd go more with my own beliefs and not with any mythology.

But thanks for reviewing, I'm a review slut so more the merrier!

Cheers,
D.

Review:
It's a very neat story, all threads tied back in and everything closed off. Which considering the length is very impressive. I have to say, although I liked the whole story, my favorite part was the idea of Librarians heaven. Its scary how many people I know who would love an eternity like that.
Comments from author:
Gee thanks for your very nice review, considering this was probably the first fic I EVER posted its doubly welcome.

All the best,

Aw! Buffy gets to be with her mother again.
Comments from author:
Took me by surprise this one!

I was replying to comments about another story I'm posting and I see Buffy! Buffy? I thought what's Buffy got to do with it? Then I looked at the review properly...ah!

Thank-you for reviewing this, I think this was the first or second story I ever posted on TTH, nice to see people are still reading it.

All the best,
DaveT.

Review:
This was a very good story! I had tears in my eyes over the thought of Buffy's demise, yet the Valkyrie was right, Buffy would make a terrible old person. Though, I'm not sure I would want to spend eternity as a six-year-old. Maybe Buffy likes the lack of responsibility after all her years of fighting. Anyhow, excellent job.
Comments from author:
Thank-you for reviewing. I think this is the second thing I ever posted so it's nice to see people still reading it.

My thought was that Buffy might want ti return to a simpler time in her life.

All the best,

DaveT.

I liked your story. It is a fitting end and rest for The Slayer. Or at least until she is ready to once again do battle against Evil somewhere and sometime.
