Dawn flew back as an energy blast hit her in the chest. Buffy was going to be pissed when she found out about Dawn’s little “stroll”. Several demons had attacked her and only Spike’s timely arrival had saved her at all. Still he was outnumbered and they seemed intent on taking her out.
If only she had magic like Willow or slayer powers like Buffy, then she could fight her own battles. All she had was the dubious honor of being The Key.
Before she could get back up she heard another blast coming her way. She squeezed her eyes shut and concentrated. She was a mystical Key and all she needed to do was NOT BE where that energy blast hit.
After a few moments she realized, it hadn’t hit. Not only that, but she couldn’t hear the fight around her. She peeked one eye open and took a quick look. After being momentarily blinded by the noon time sun she saw that she was in a forest.
“Oh shit,” she muttered. “Buffy is going to kill me!”
“Or I will,” another voice behind her cut in. “What are you doing in my forest?”
Dawn turned to see a pretty girl, seemingly around her age watching her with a scowl on her face. This girl was obviously not human. Her ears and part of her head were green and her feet were backwards.
“Umm, I don’t know?” Dawn answered with a squeak.
The green girl seemed less than impressed so Dawn continued, “I was, umm, there and then I wasn’t. Where am I?”
The green girl rolled her eyes and folded her arms across her chest. “I told you, you are in MY forest. Don’t you know who I am?”
Dawn shook her head, “Nope.” This wasn’t going well. She really hoped that Spike had made it back to the others. Willow was her only hope at the moment.
“I am Curupira, the forest demon,” the green girl answered. At Dawn’s blank look she threw up her hands in disgust. “You’re as bad as a human!”
Dawn blinked. “I am human,” she said slowly getting up and backing away from the forest demon.
“So what is with the green hair and skin?” Curupira asked. “Not only do you invade my forest, but you try and take my look. That is just plain rude.”
Dawn automatically touched her hair and began looking around for something reflective. A few feet away was a small pool of water and her reflection was noticeably different from the last time she checked. Her hair had long streaks of green among the brown, her forehead was green, and her eyes were a very bright, almost luminescent green.
“This is so not my problem,” Curupira said.
Dawn turned to ask her a question, but the forest demon was gone. She was alone in a forest with no signs of any civilization. “I just hope this world has shrimp,” Dawn muttered. She could hear a river not far away and started to walk towards it. Maybe she could find someone to help her.
**Notes: Dawn has similar changes as Fred to Illyria, just green instead of blue.
