She could remember the way that it had felt to stab that man. The way it had felt to wrap her hands around the throat of that woman and squeeze the air from her lungs.

Dawn shivered. Shuddered. She wrapped her arms around herself and still only felt cold.

Possessed. Of all the things that had happened to her, that was new. And scary. Thank God that…Meg-demon… hadn’t been able to tap into whatever part of her was still the Key.

“Hey, you okay?”

Dawn shook her head, mute. She looked at Sam, knowing that she looked broken and defeated, and she just didn’t care.

From across the room, Dean asked, “Do you have someone we should call? You know, to let them know you’re okay?”

Okay? Dawn swallowed down the hysterical laugh that bubbled in her throat, but not completely. It came out tired.

“Okay? I’m not okay.”

Sam sighed, and when he put his arm around her shoulders she didn’t move away, didn’t stop him.

“I know,” he murmured. “I… You’re not the first person Meg did this to. I understand.”

The way he said it… that same tired, worn, haunted tone in his voice…

Dawn believed him.
