Disclaimer: Joss Whedon owns BTVS (including a few lines used below) and Stephanie Meyer owns the Host. That's probably a good thing.

Time Frame: End of Season Two. Spoilers up to then.

Feedback: First fic, so really really appreciated.




Willow took a deep breath, trying to centre herself despite her throbbing head. As she breathed in the strong scent of the herbs and incense the pain receded, to be replaced by a growing light-headedness. She wasn't sure if that was a good thing. Checking over the setup once more she took a deep breath. "Are we ready?" she asked.

"Stinky herbs are go," Cordelia replied.

Willow began the chant...

Meanwhile from a place unknowable to a species as insignificant as humanity, the Chaos God Janus watched the unfolding scene. Puny though they undeniably were, the fledgling Scooby Gang was beginning to get on his nerves. Not only had they inconvenienced one of his favoured disciples, interrupting one of the most amusing, not to mention apt, acts of Chaos he had seen in quite a while but they were proving annoyingly efficient in stopping anything fun from going down at all. If he didn't do something they might actually bring about, ugh, balance. Couldn't have that.

While one of his faces was fixed in horror and sorrow, the other grinned widely. Time to throw a spanner in the works...

In the hospital the lights flickered and died as the redheaded witch's voice rose, the shadows rising behind her as her friends watched in fascinated horror. "Asa sa fie! Asa sa fie! Acum! Acum!"

The orb flashed silver, so bright that they had to look away, and as the light faded Willow collapsed back onto her pillow, her tired eyes closing.

Eyes that just for a moment glimmered silver.

Janus chuckled.
