Meeting The Family: Emily Prentiss
I own the idea only. Joss owns Buffy, Criminal Minds is owned by, um...someone not me? CBS! No suing please!Summary:
Short stories set before, during, and post A City is Not a Home.Warning:
Tara survived Warren and Molly survived Caleb. Everything with CM is fairly cannon—only a few incredibly MINOR things will be changed. This one actually WILL have slash at some point. Also, it helps if you've read ACINAH but all you really need to know at this point is that Buffy and Molly live in DC and Aaron Hotchner was Joyce's cousin but is an uncle-type to Buffy and Dawn.A/N 1:
These are NOT going to be even close to chronological order. I post as I get inspired. :DMeeting The Family: Prentiss“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.”

Aaron was deep in work when he heard a small commotion at the bullpen. He looked out the window and saw Prentiss, newly arrived, approaching a familiar brunette. He smiled and got up. He hadn't been expecting a visit today.
“Hello, can I help you?” Aaron leaned against the railing, watching the teams newest agent speak politely to the teen.
“I'm Molly Hawthorne,” the girl held out a hand. “You must be Emily Prentiss.”
“Yes,” Prentiss answered, slightly startled. “I'm sorry, have we met?”
“No,” Molly said cheerfully. “Buffy told me at dinner the other day about you.” Emily nodded, though it was fairly obvious she had no idea who Buffy was. Molly grinned and caught Aaron's eye over the woman's shoulder. “You gonna help her out or just let her flounder?”
Prentiss turned, looking surprised and just a touch relieved to see him standing there. “I see you've met Molly,” he smiled. “She lives with my niece. Buffy Summers.”
“Where is Spencer?” a new voice said and Aaron perked up as Dawn came into the office. “I figured he'd be in here spouting some statistics or something.”
“He's practicing his firearms,” Aaron replied, finally coming down into the bull-pen. “I didn't know you were in town.”
Dawn hugged him, snuggling slightly before pulling back. “It's Spring Break, Uncle Aaron,” she said and out of the corner of his eye, Aaron saw Prentiss start at the endearment. “I got in this morning.”
Aaron glanced at one of the clocks on the wall. “I take it you two are here to drag me out to lunch?”
“Yup!” Dawn chirped. “Buffy's waiting in the car.”
“Dawn, is that you?” JJ said, coming into the room. She smiled warmly at the young brunette when Dawn bounced over to give her a hug. They didn't think he knew but JJ and Dawn had kept in contact after LA through emails and Facebook. “Spring break?”
“Yup!” Dawn answered. She paused. “We should do lunch or something this week if you don't get a case.”
“We will,” JJ agreed. “Garcia's been dying to meet you in person anyway.”
Dawn looked longingly through the glass doors to where she must assume Garcia's office was located. “If I had the time, I'd say hi now.” She shook her head. “But Uncle Aaron needs to eat and Buffy should not be allowed alone in a car for too long.”
“No kidding,” Molly snorted and Aaron raised an eyebrow when she handed him his jacket and wallet. A quick glance at his office confirmed she'd closed and locked the doors. He turned back to the women just as Molly turned to JJ, wrinkling her nose. “She's a menace in a car—I think she was a stunt driver in a past life.”
“No, just Daphne,” Dawn smirked and Molly snickered. Aaron rolled his eyes at the in-joke; Buffy had not been pleased when everyone and their mother insisted she looked like Daphne in the Scooby Doo movie.
“So!” Molly said and Prentiss, looking bemused, straightened. “Dawn, this is Emily Prentiss. Emily Prentiss, Dawn Summers.”
“Ahh, yes, the new teammate,” Dawn said. She paused a moment, studying her. She smiled warmly. “You'll do. You'll do nicely.”
“Thank you,” Prentiss smiled back, looking slightly off-kilter. More softly she added, “I think.”
“Lunch?” Aaron asked, giving Prentiss a reprieve. None of his nieces nor their extended family were normal and until you got used to it, it was incredibly off-putting.
“I swear she's speaking English yet I don't understand a word,” Molly said to Aaron and Dawn elbowed her. “Seriously, who's the one who's actually been in England for the past couple months? I thought it was just born and bred Americans who didn't make sense!”
"Talk about not making sense!"
Smiling at the girls bickering, Aaron and the two teens left behind a smiling JJ and a confused looking Prentiss. Aaron wasn't worried about the latter. She'd learn.
