Spoilers: Set post most recent season of GA and Takes place in my Summers in Seattle ‘verse.
Summary: Izzie takes a trip.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Xander asked the blonde leaning on the kitchen counter behind him.
“Yes, I am,” she answered, sighing heavily, “I want to do this. I know you think I’m just letting it all pull me back in, but-”
“But?” he asked, turning around to face her. She pulled a face at him and stood up straight, reaching for the duffel bag on the floor in front of her.
“It’s not. I just need to see that they’re ok. I promise, I’ll be back,” she told him, smile on her face.
“And if you’re not?” he asked, taking the bag from her and following her out the car.
“And if,” she pointed at him, “that’s a big ‘if’, if I’m not I’m sure my cousins won’t be the only ones coming to knock some sense into me.”
“Exactly,” he told her, “you’re all set, tank’s full and you’ve got all the emergency kits we could think of.”
“Xander, I’ll be back,” she said, giving him a hug and getting into the car.
As he watched her drive off he smiled, “I know you will Iz, I know.”
Izzie Stevens leant against the steering wheel of her best friend’s SUV and sighed. She’d been doing that a lot lately. At first, when she went home to her family and got settled into their lives and got into the local hospitals surgical programme (on the promise she would be the Council’s surgeon when she was done) she had been relieved. Her life was finally going somewhere. She was finally healthy. She was getting close to happy. She was learning to live away from Seattle Grace.
Then one afternoon after arriving home she entered the living room which was in silence as the TV droned on. She saw everyone’s faces before she saw the TV. Chills ran down her spine as she turned to the innocent screen in the corner and froze. Little Lexie Grey was wheeling her husband, ex-husband, on a gurney towards an ambulance outside the hospital.
“What the hell?”
