Chapter One

Time Frame: For the Scoobies, this happens during the last part of 'Chosen,' and for the Warehouse 13 characters, it takes place during Season Two, episode eight, 'Merge With Caution.' I am quite arbitrarily rearranging Warehouse 13's timeline to make it correspond with that of BtVS Season Seven.

Spoilers: None intended, but if you don’t know what happened up to this point, why are you reading this story?

Character Bashing: None.

Feedback: Of course!

Archiving: Talk to me first, please.

Author’s Note 1: This one is unbeta'd, as all of these submissions will be.

Author’s Note 2: As usual, “word” indicates speech, :: word :: indicates mental communication and { word } indicates a character's thoughts.

Author’s Note 3: This is story #2 for Challenge 6471: August Fic-A-Day 2011.

Myka Bering, former Secret Service agent and currently artifact recovery agent for Warehouse 13, sat at the Colorado Springs hotel bar where her high school reunion was being held, sipping her gin and tonic and trying to summon up enough courage to go over and talk to Kurt Smoller, her old high school crush. Suddenly, she felt a stab of excruciating pain knife though her abdomen, while her eyes also flashed yellow, and she nearly fell off her bar stool.

Unknown to her, at least at that moment, the same thing was happening to her partner, Pete Lattimer, back in Univille, South Dakota.

Fortunately for both of them, Pete was currently sitting in his kitchen, eating a bowl of cereal, and was no longer engaged in heated carnal activities with Kelly Hernandez, his current significant other, since both abruptly discovered that they had just exchanged bodies, apparently as a result of the artifact they'd just recovered earlier that day

A quick call using their Farnsworth communicators allowed them to coordinate their actions and arrange to meet at the hotel, since Myka wanted to stay in Colorado Springs and attend her reunion, once they figured out how to reverse whatever caused the body switch.

Pete decided it would be best if he waited up in Myka's hotel room for her to arrive, since he was feeling the effects of the alcohol she'd been drinking earlier, and a bar and a recovering alcoholic were not things that should be in close proximity, if at all possible.

It was while he was waiting for her to show up with his body when Pete heard the voice in his head start talking to him.

:: Are you ready to be strong? :: the voice asked him, while scenes that appeared to be taken from a series of horror movies, of monsters attacking young women, filled his mind.

{ Whoa, Myka must have really poured a few down while she was waiting for her reunion to start, } he decided, figuring that the thoughts rushing though his head were merely hallucinations similar to, but different from, those he'd experienced before he'd finally decided to sober up, back in the bad old days.

:: Well, are you? :: the voice repeated its demand.

Shrugging to himself and hoping that he'd sober up pretty soon, Pete nodded his head.

:: Yeah, sure. Being strong's always good, :: he answered.

A fraction of an instant later, he felt as though a rush of power had surged through him (well, through Myka's body, actually), and then the voice and the hallucinations faded away.

{ Boy, am I glad I don't drink any more, } Pete thought to himself as he sank back onto the couch. { I forgot how strange the DT's could be. }

Picking up the TV remote so that he could kill time while waiting for Myka to arrive with his body, his eyes widened with surprise as the device broke into pieces in his grasp.

"Uh-oh," he groaned as he stared at the various fragments of plastic littering the coffee table.

"Looks like that artifact had some other side effects besides just the body switch."
