Buffy made her way back to her hotel room. Callen was right behind her. “You know, you didn’t need to follow me all the way back. I can take care of myself.” The idea of her needed a big, strong guy to protect her was laughable. As the Slayer, she would be protecting him, not the other way around.
“Yeah, well, better safe than sorry. As you’ve seen, LA isn’t all that safe. Besides, I’m not sure it’s such a good idea for you to be alone right now,” Callen said. After what she’d just learned from her so called father, being alone was the last thing she needed right now.
“I’m not alone,” Buffy said as she opened the door to her suite and stepped inside.
Giles, Willow, And Xander immediately came to greet her. “Buffy, thank goodness you’re…” Giles trailed off as he saw who Buffy was with.
“Guys, this is Special Agent G Callen. G, this is Rupert Giles, Willow Rosenberg, and Xander Harris,” Buffy introduced.
“Nice to meet you all,” Callen said politely.
“Buffy, I thought you were going to see your dad,” Xander said. He was clearly a bit uncomfortable in the presence of a federal agent, even if he was related to Buffy.
“I did,” Buffy said as she began taking off her jacket. “G apparently had the same idea. He wanted to talk to Hank too.”
Callen smiled. “I guess there is something to that whole twin thing. Although, we’re not exactly twins. More like two of triplets.”
“So it’s true then?” Willow asked.
“Yeah, it’s true. This is my brother,” Buffy said. She could hardly believe the words coming out of her own mouth. She had a brother and a father she’d never known. It was unbelievable.
“So what happened if you don’t mind me asking?” Giles asked.
“Well, Hank claims I was adopted,” Buffy said.
Callen scowled. “Adopted my ass.”
“Yeah, he was lying. I could tell. He was in it up to his eyeballs,” Buffy said angrily.
“I’m so sorry, Buffy. I’m sorry for both of you,” Giles said sympathetically. He couldn’t imagine what either of them are going through. Finding out that your parents weren’t who you thought they were had to be hard for anyone.
“Don’t feel sorry for us, feel sorry for him. He’s gonna pay,” Callen said. Gibbs would see to that. There was no way in hell their father was going to let this go. Once he found out, there wasn’t going to be a safe place on Earth for Summers to hide.
“You okay, Buff,” Xander asked. He knew was probably a stupid question, but he had to ask it anyway.
“I…I don’t know,” Buffy said honestly. She had no idea how to feel right now. It was just all so overwhelming. Never in her life did she think something like this would happen to her. Nothing could’ve prepared her for it.
“Well, I better go. There’s someone I gotta see,” Callen said before taking out his wallet and taking out a card. “Here, this is my card. Call me when you’re ready.”
Buffy took it. “Thank you. For what it’s worth, I’m glad you were there today.”
Callen nodded and then left.
“Are you alright, Buffy?” Giles asked, repeating Xander’s question.
Buffy sighed. “I really don’t know. I’m still trying to get past the shock of it all. I mean, the last thing I expected when I got hauled away by the Feds was that I would end up being related to two of them. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with that information.”
“Maybe you should take some time. You know, don’t make any decisions about anything until you’ve had time to absorb the information,” Willow suggested.
“Yeah, that’s probably a good idea. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to take a hot bath and try to do just that. Think,” Buffy said before walking away.
Gibbs was in his hotel room flipping through the channels of the TV when he heard a knock at the door. He immediately shut the TV off and got up to answer it. He was pleasantly surprised to find his son on the other side. “Hey, come on in.”
“Thanks,” Callen said as he walked inside.
“Are you alright?” Gibbs asked.
“For the most part,” Callen said as he sat down at the small table near the door. “I saw Buffy today.”
Gibbs sat down across from his son. “Is she okay?”
“I doubt it, but she’s accepted the truth. She didn’t really have much choice. We met up by accident. We’d both had the idea of going to see Hank Summers,” Callen started to explain.
“That’s the guy she thought was her father,” Gibbs commented. He had his agents looking into the man. He wanted to know if Summers had any connection to what happened.
“Yeah. I went to see him to get answers,” Callen said.
“Why didn’t you tell me? I would’ve gone with you,” Gibbs said.
Callen gave him a knowing smile. “I was afraid you’d kill him before we actually got the answers.
Gibbs gave him a look, but didn’t comment any further.
“Anyway, Buffy was walking up when I got there. Apparently she had the same idea, so we went in and talked to the guy,” Callen continued.
“And?” Gibbs pressed.
“And he claims that he adopted Buffy,” Callen said. The disbelief was clear in his voice.
“You don’t believe him,” Gibbs said. It wasn’t a question.
“Not even a little bit. Buffy didn’t either. He was lying though his teeth. I think it was a black market adoption. It probably was with both of us,” he said.
Gibbs growled angrily. “Son of a bitch!” He was ready to kill someone now. The thought that there was someone out there that actually thought he could put a price tag on his children made him want to shoot someone.
“Yeah, that’s pretty much it,” Callen said.
Gibbs forced himself to calm down. He could kill Summers later. Right now he needed to focus on his children, especially Buffy. She had just found out that the man she thought was her father had actually bought her like she was some kind of object. “How did Buffy take it?”
“She was pissed. She managed to keep a cool head about it though. I didn’t. I wanted to rip his insides out right then and there,” Callen said angrily. Just thinking about the low life brought his anger back. He had half a mind to go back and finish what he started.
Gibbs looked at his son directly in the eye. “Oh, Don’t worry, Hank Summers will get what’s coming to him. I promise you that.”
