Au- Artist's Notes: Hey, just caught that one. Officially, for this one, I am the "artist", not the "author". Yay, me. I appear to have figured out the procedure for doing this. I have a few other sketches scanned in from some time ago. I will try to find them and get them posted as well.

Amanda Mason is an original character. She snuck up on me, first as a woman trapped in a dire situation, and then, as I tried to puzzle out "how did she get there? how is she getting out?" It became a Criminal Minds story. Then, because Agent Hotchner is, not exactly my favorite character (that would be Garcia), a character who resonates with me, who I care very much about, I saw the opportunity to put these two together.

It's difficult, under the circumstances, not to create a Mary Sue who shrugs off bad things, picks up a gun, and makes the combined personnel of the BAU wet their pants in amazement. The way around this, an old friend once told me, is to put the character through the kind of hell that no sane reader would want to experience, but which earns the character the kind of respect and goodwill from other characters that is what every Mary Sue writer wants from the start.

So it is with Amanda.

Amanda Mason, Mason, during her time in hell.
