Buffy had just spent almost 19 hours on a bus going from Sunnydale, California, to Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was tired of sitting down and wanted to run around. She wanted to patrol and get in a fight. She had way too much energy built up in her from the trip. She was about to go crazy from it.
But first she was going to find a hotel for the night. She would go to Cheyenne Mountain Complex tomorrow morning. Tonight was when she was going to get a taste of the night life, so to speak. Because of the extra energy, she was hoping for at least five vampires to show. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to sleep much.
She changed into different clothes after freshening up a little and hid weapons variously on her body. She got her hotel room key, luckily not a card, and put it in a safe place. Then, she got her money and headed out the door to the hotel lobby. Since it wasn’t going to be dark for about an hour, and because she was hungry, she decided to eat before she went patrolling. Once there, she asked the hotel desk person for a good restaurant recommendation. He recommended a place called O’Malley’s, a nice restaurant down the road. She thanked him after she got directions and went on her way.
After she arrived at the restaurant, Buffy was seated at a booth by the window. She looked at the menu, ordered her food and a drink, and started to stare out the window and admired the views and sights along with people watching. After ten minutes or so, the waiter came back with her food and she began to eat. Not much longer after that, she happened to overhear, clearly now, before it was just background, a somewhat familiar voice from the dream that told her to come here in the first place.
“So, Daniel, how do you think the meet and greet went?”
“Oh, I don’t know Jack. Maybe completely fantastic,” Daniel said, his voice laced heavily with sarcasm. More serious now, he says after sighing like it should be obvious about how it went, “It went completely insane and horrible.”
“Ahh, you think?” taunted Jack.
To Buffy it sounded like Jack was smiling and teasing at Daniel. Buffy would bet that Daniel probably rolled his eyes at Jack.
“So,” Jack continued, “What movie do we want to watch?”
“I believe we should watch the movie entitled Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
,” intoned a deep male voice.
“Again,” Jack complained. “Murray, we’ve watched that movie thirty times.”
“I find the plot and special effects very interesting and enjoyable, O’Neill.”
“Well, anyways,” Jack sighed, “Carter?”
“I think we should watch Spaceballs
, sir,” a female voice, presumably Carter suggested.
? That movie is a joke!” Jack laughed.
“Well, sir, you did ask me to say the name of a movie I would like to watch,” Carter defended herself.
“Okay, okay,” Jack stated giving up. “Daniel, what about you?”
Daniel thought for a minute. “Um, I think we should watch Titanic
?” Carter and Jack asked simultaneously.
"What is this movie, Titanic
, that you speak of, Daniel Jackson?" Murray asked.
"It's a movie that is considered an historical drama and romance. It's about two people on a ship who fall in love, but they can't be together. The ship sank April 14, 1912, and it is still at the bottom of the ocean. A group of people go to find a necklace that is called the 'Heart of the Ocean', that was supposed to be worth more than the Hope Diamond in the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington DC. It was a necklace with lots of normal diamonds, plus a very rare, historical blue diamond cut into the shape of a heart in the middle. While looking for the diamond, they come across the safe it was supposed to be in. When they open it, there is a notebook with a lot of pictures drawn in it. One has a young woman lying on a couch with the 'Heart of the Ocean' around her neck, and it was dated the night the Titanic sank. They show the picture on the television and a really old lady sees it and says that it's her, and ends up going onto the ship called the Kelvin and tells the story of the Titanic's trip, its sinking, and the saving of the survivors. It's fascinating!" explained Daniel.
When Buffy heard how Daniel explained Titanic
to "Murray," she was awed. It was her favorite movie, even though the year it came out sucked for her from being called as the Slayer. She continued to listen while she ate.
"Yeah, but Titanic
?" Jack asked still trying to imagine Daniel watching a "chick flick", at least according to Jack it was. After Daniel nodded, Jack continued. "Daniel, you'll sit there and write everything historically inaccurate in three notebooks."
"No, I won't." Daniel said, then after the look Jack gave him, he started to look sheepish. "I've already done that. It was surprisingly close, well the part that wasn't the fictional story anyways. It didn't even take a few pages." He looked awed for a second, then excited. "It's my favorite movie, Jack."
At this, Buffy decided she liked Daniel. Titanic
was her favorite movie, too. They were going to get along just fine. Jack, however, might be harder to get along with.
"Daniel? We're not watching a 'chick flick'." Jack told Daniel, who sighed in frustration.
"Jack," Daniel said getting annoyed, "Titanic
is not a 'chick flick'. It is a movie that has romance, action, and history in it."
"He's right, you know," Buffy interjected, turning around to face them. "Titanic
isn't a 'chick flick' as you called it. (When she said 'chick flick', it was in an annoyed and insulted tone. Then went back to normal.) I know guys who like the movie and they are definitely straight, before you say anything to try and contradict otherwise."
Jack stared at her like she had two heads. "Who are you? I don't remember asking anyone's opinion on the matter that isn't at this table."
As Jack said this, Carter and Daniel rolled their eyes at the leader of SG-1.
"Well, Jack, it sounded like you were hounding poor Daniel about a movie. Carter and Teal'c didn't sound like they were helping Daniel one bit," stated Buffy.
When Buffy got done, the four of them stared at her like she had just admitted that she was an alien, or that vampires were real. Then she remembered, Oops, I think I said the wrong name. Murray in public, Tea'l'c in private.
Out loud, she said, "What?" while looking completely innocent.
Jack asked, "Why did you call him Teal'c? His name is Murray. And how did you know the rest of our names?"
"He looks like a Teal'c. I knew the rest because I heard them said." Since Buffy was done with her food, she put the money for the bill on the table, plus tip, and peeked outside. It was just after sunset, which meant patrol time. She glanced at her wrist, appearing to look at a watch even though she didn't have one, and said, "Oh my, look at the time. Got to go on patrol. Bye! See you tomorrow!" She got up and walked out the door.
SG-1, being done also, put the money for their bill on the table, plus tip, and followed after Buffy, the mysterious woman who just might know more than she was supposed to, or allowed to.
When they caught up to her, Jack spun her around to face him and demanded, "Who are you? Who do you work for? Who's your source? The NID?"
Buffy looked at him like he was crazy. She became really mad because he assumed she was with the NID. "Are you insane?! Why the fuck would anyone associate themselves with those fucking assholes?!"
Jack looked at her shocked somewhat. She had the right idea about those slimy bastards. But he just had to know. "How do you know about the NID?"
Buffy's eyes turned into steel as she answered, “It was something called Project Initiative. It was the government getting involved in something they shouldn't mess with. That's as much as I can tell you; the rest is very highly classified." Her eyes relaxed a little and became less steely.
Jack started talking again. "What did you mean in the restaurant by 'See you tomorrow!'?"
Buffy sighed. "I was planning on waiting until tomorrow morning to go to the mountain and meet you, but we ran into each other tonight, so that will make it our second meeting then. Now, I really have got to get going on patrol, which is super important." She started jumping up and down while energy was building up inside of her.
With that, she was about to use Slayer speed to get away from Jack, when she felt a vampire coming up behind her. She stopped bouncing and stiffened up some, taking battle stance, reached for Mr. Pointy, pulled him out, turned around, and prepared for the upcoming battle. Meanwhile, SG-1 saw Buffy doing this and pulled out their guns, not knowing what to expect.
