BtVS, Captain America, the Avengers and any associated characters do not belong to me. Spoilers/Timeline:
Takes place between Season 3 and 4 of Buffy, technically in the middle of the Captain America: The First Avenger movie (but that's only because the movie spans a few decades). Also, this is all Marvel movie verse and not the comics. :)Summary:
Be all you can be. Maggie Walsh would help her soldiers do just that – and more. +++"This will take a fair bit of manuevering on my part. You're sure that you can do this? When so many of our country's best minds before you have failed?"
"Absolutely, sir," Maggie Walsh said confidently into the phone. "As you know from my most recent report, we have already made remarkable strides, both in demonic behavior modification and with our own soldiers. I have every confidence that I will be able to decode the good doctor's notes.""You'll have to,"
came the immediate reply. "As it is, your... colleagues in competing agencies will not be pleased, particularly S–"
"Let them file a complaint then," Maggie said smoothly. "In the meantime, let me do my work."
There was a chuckle on the other end."Very well. I will see what I can do."*click*
Maggie sat back in her chair and smiled, not ready to hang up the phone quite yet. After all, this was a moment worth savoring, when she could see all her hard work coming to fruition.
When she had first been assigned to the Initiative – and once she had gotten over her disbelief in the existence of demons – she had been fascinated by the realm of possibilities it held. She had immersed herself in the most rigorous of experiments, all of which seemed to lead to the same conclusion – the HSTs had incredible powers, ones that if harnessed correctly, could have profound effect on the military, the country, the world
As she continued on with her work, however, she came to another startling realization.
It wasn't enough. The HSTs were not the answer; they were merely the tools needed to get there. The answer lay with soldiers like Finn, Graham, and Gates.
That was when she had realized what she had to do, the logical progression of her work.
There had been rumors flying around for years about a secret government program, designed to build a superior soldier. It was only when she had finally been granted the clearance necessary to access to some of the military's more classified documents pertaining toward experiments to improve soldiers that she saw it.
And now it was hers for the taking.
Chuckling to herself, she finally placed the phone back in its cradle. She almost wished she could see the look on Fury's face when he got the news, the arrogant bastard – because if all went as planned, she would have her hands on Dr. Erskine's "Super Soldier Serum" notes within 48 hours. And after that?
The possibilities were limitless. Just like her soldiers would be. +++
A/N: So I'm marking this story as complete – for now. I have some ideas of where I want to take it, but I have too many WIPs waiting patiently for some attention. I just had to get this plot bunny out before it disappeared. Or, even worse, before it bred more
