Review of chapter "So...... It's a what, now ??" from (Recent Donor)DeacBlue
Review:
Well, the thing is, you'll find that most of the bigger things, and larger groups, will be mostly ineffective - or they would have been used before. The average rifleman (bulk of Romanova's troops) is nothing but food for 99% of the demons they're likely to face, with no weapon except, maybe, an incendiary grenade, that'll do any damage. The MechWarriors are similarly handicapped, although not as completely.

Good authors bring balance in, so that you don't have, "Well, hi!" thump! "The big bad is dead. Time for mochas!" Often it's by building weaknesses into the protagonists, as I did with "Back to the Beginning"'s Willow, but you can also build up the opposition, as Readsalot did with the Bolos.
Comments from author:
hmm comment: I agree. If you notice in my 'Battlefront' story, the standard army units are being deployed in what the U.S. forces in Korea refer to as 'Speedbump' mode. Their entire role is to stand long enough to enable the deployment of more effective forces or to enable the evacuation of the civilian populace... thus the references to 70+ % casualties to regular units and 100% casualties to National Guard units. On the other hand, specialized units are being deployed to accomplish specific goals and their extra experience (Slayer and SG Teams) are enabling them to be simultaneously more effective while taking lesser casualites (Though the Cleveland Slayers have been effectively wiped out, the Scoobies are now Combat ineffective and the SGC slayers are down 50%).

Ah the Battletech crew gets more involved.
Comments from author:
They had to get there eventually. I think I'll be moving them to the other story pretty soon.

Review of chapter "The Wrath of Mother Russia" from HMaxMarius
Review:
"General O'Neill, Watcher Brainerd."

--------

"Yessir. I have a Premier Romanova here as part of the leading element of a 300k strong force.

--------

"I'll have someone escort her to your office right away sir."

Mark hung up the phone and pushed the intercom. "Sergeant Siler? Could you have a member of SG-10 step into my office?" (10 being October... I figure it's a natural for the Russian SG team)

And welcome to the team Shaithan. I'm adding you to the 'Battlefront' list. I do hope the Premier and O'Neill have a conversation about acceptable use of force ;)

Who's going to inform them that the bulk of that force is simply so much cannon fodder? I guess it's another job for Mark Brainerd. :)

Review of chapter "The Wrath of Mother Russia" from Rich
Review:
300,00 troops ? Atomic howitzers ?? I think the tide just turned. But the use of atomic howitzers against an American city won't go over well, even if it is Cleveland.
Comments from author:
Most of these troops are nothing more than conscripted Cannon Fodder. Sure, they have the numbers, but hardly anyone of the foot soldiers will come back. Hell, the tank troops will take serious losses. And yes, the Reds will have their dear troubles when they try to shell demon clusters with the Howitzers. Namely, the Americans feeling not terribly happy about the fact that low-yield alpha rad and neutronic nukes are used. Also, they will bomb clusters of demons, even if there are friendly people nearby. After all, it's a tactic they have employed in the past several times. Not something the others will be happy about.

Review of chapter "Getting up to Speed" from TheOdinson
Review:
Good so far...question...it may not matter, but has a spot for the Hellmouth been picked...thought about it a while back and figured underneath St. John's Episcopal Church in some catacombs or caves...it's the oldest consecrated building in Cuyahoga county...

Just a thought
Comments from author:
for the story, the most specific reference is 15 miles east of Cleveland proper. I don't know the area to know what that would be near... but considering that Sunnydale was specifically positioned over the Hellmouth by the Mayor I felt it would be consistent with the 'bad vibes' for it not to be directly under Cleveland.

Nice addition Rich... and Hailey... Oh yeah I don't think Diane will mind that her writing influenced yours... Actually I'm kinda hoping this little jaunt will attract her participation :) (I'd even be curious if she'd pull a tongue in cheek Whateley cross since the Marvel Squirrel Girl has arrived ;) )

hmm
Comments from author:
I'm glad you liked it. I don't know if I'll keep using Hailey but I felt like she had to be involved somehow - all those brains and temper in a tiny little package.

That was Hilarious.

BTW, what does it say that I heard "Good New!" in the professor's voice *before* I saw anything even hint at Futurama?
Comments from author:
That it's his most over-used catchphrase?

Glad you liked it!

Review:
"Uh, sorry?" was sheepishly offered by Mirror Master in the cubicle after the others were thrown out.

Sending this DC universe villain a very sullen glare, Mark finished signing his name on the form. Without another word, the trainee Watcher shoved this sheet of paper past the scorch marks on his desktop.

Picking up their enlistment form for everyone, Mirror Master opened his mouth to say something, perhaps another apology, until he decided there really wasn't any point. Leaving under the baleful gaze of a man with every single hair on his head sticking straight up as from an electric shock, one of the Flash's rogues gallery pretended not to hear the faint *crunch* of a foot under the desk being yanked out of the layer of ice covering Mark's now-ruined pair of shoes.

Dinochrome... when you care enough to send the very very best!

For the Honor of the Regiment indeed! Welcome to the Melee Readsalot! You are now added to 'Battlefront'.

All I can say is More! MORE! I also really like how you don't overpower the main battlefield with the BOLO units! Although, since someone has told me they're doing The Avengers having unit THR of the Line meet up with the Son of Odin... :)

mmh
Comments from author:
The Brigade doesn't really play well with Infantry in the immediate battlezone; there's too much chance of something going wrong and the Bolo having to use its Hellbores on a nearby enemy target, and Hellbores are very much NOT NICE weapons.

Wanted to get them in though, plus, expand on why Willow couldn't just handwave the Hellmouth closed and give the overwhelming enemy force a reasoning.

As for meeting the Odinson... well, that would *spoilers* the battle they're rolling into right now.

I think I've got enough for three...maybe four chapters (granted, they won't be very long, but still) in "Battlefront."
